Same here. She told me after a few rides she found it uncomfortable on a road bike. I am 46 and have ridden road bikes for 30+ years while she is 52 and has had road bikes for 3 years. Maybe when laying out the money ask if after a day or two it could be exchanged for a different style if it is not liked. My LBS will do this if there is no damage.
