[MENTION=339610]Darth Lefty[/MENTION], with practice you can get good at it again. I've now reached the point where not only do I feel safe in cleats in traffic, I feel safer with them than without them. I love my SPD shoes which look at lot like yours.
I recommend that you consider getting some really nice Shimano pedals. You will thank yourself, even though there is a dollar cost. After using many various Wellgo/Nashbar pedals, I can appreciate the difference. They might even make you feel more secure.
