Do you agree?

I do agree, somewhat reluctantly.

I took a vacation from clipless (which in a sane world would be called clip-in or click-in) pedals after breaking my ankle.

I decided to get a bike with a custom frame, and my frame builder told me the same thing, so I sucked it up and put on my old cleats and we got on with it.

It doesn't obligate you to use clip-in pedals after the fitting. It simply allows a more controlled fitting experience.

(FWIW, I am back to riding with clip-in pedals (albeit 2-bolt SPDs), and even with a range of motion limitation that means I have to twist inward to escape, it is still worth it.)
