Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

I don't know who wrote this but it's absolute nonsense. As SkyDog75 noted, all barend (and downtube) front shifters are friction only and they will work with any double or triple crank.
