too little stopping power = lawsuits
just the right amount of stopping power = lawsuits
so we know the tests have been done.
the point is, why not publicize the results?

I suppose you're basically right; perhaps the simplest reason why companies don't release info is that they feel no special purpose to give out proprietary info for free?
