Miyata MT1000
I feel a little better now, Clubman. The routing certainly looks like it was factory done. The only reasons I questioned it were 1) I have never seen it on a Miyata (but I'm very obviously no expert) and 2) it doesn't make a lot of sense on a bike intended to be loaded down and ridden in bad weather.
I'll try to get some pics up once it's back together... thanks for the help.
