Of all the threads of recent, this one has been so far the most quintessentially 41-- "purists" whining about the good 'ol days, and how Strava is the end of "pure" cycling, and it used to be for the everyman, and now everything is ruined. Meanwhile, those same so-called purists have 19 steel-framed pre-1980 bikes in their basement, or worse, a $5000 CF 13lb "OMG LOOK HOW LIGHT IT IS!" bike that they ride every third weekend, when the weather is just so. Half the threads are about how much money they didn't spend (look how much money I saved by buying this!) and the other half are humblebragging about how much they did.

Cycling is about riding a bike, in case y'all forgot. Doesn't matter what it is, doesn't matter where you ride it, so long as you're riding, you're cycling. Individuals are allowed to derive enjoyment from whatever it is that tickles their fancy-- measuring watts and logging rides is no less honorable an enterprise than just going out and riding without caring how long or how far. From what I've gathered, there is but a smattering of folks on here that actually devote time to riding bikes. And that's fine too. I'm the last person to go around an enforce people actively participate in their self-chosen hobbies.

But saying that there's a right and wrong way to mess about in that hobby is just ludicrous. Because at the end of the day, we're all just messing about here.
