Why would you convert it?

A flat bar bike should have bar-end, rotating or trigger shifters. Bar-end shifters are better for swept-back style bars like North Roads.
Bar end shifters look ridiculous on North Road bars. The ends of the bars point too much to the sides. Unless the bars are steel, bar ends won't fit.

Albatross bars are much more suitable for bar ends. The ends point nearly straight back and the heat treated aluminum version is thin-walled enough to allow the shifters to fit.
