Did a drop to flat bar conversion for my wife. She is very happy with it.
I feel like this was a pretty solid part spec without cutting corners, but definitely no-frill and basic. I had the grips already (thus the hideous green, they were a promotional giveaway) , but plan to spend at least $35 to get something really comfortable, like Ergons.
I would say you could do this for around $160 plus shipping, NOT including a stem. Surely for under $200 total.
Here is what I bought from Jenson:
- Kalloy Allrounder handlebar, 560mm: $12
- Shimano brake levers: $17
- Microshift 2x10 / 3x10 shifters: $64
- Jagwire Road Pro brake/shifter cables and housing: $32
Grips: Figure on spending at least $35 for something like Ergons. DO NOT SKIMP ON THIS!!!
For a stem I used a 26.0mm stem that I had used on the old drop bars. I bought a shim for $10 to use it with the 25.4mm Kalloy bar. However, if you need to buy a new stem, you may as well just go with the size you need without a shim.
