It's a great very capable bike. This one is 2005. I have the 2008 flavour and love it. I bought mine in 2011 for $340 cad. So I think the asking price of 300 for a 12 year old bike is a bit exaggerated. The specs were pretty good in 2005 with sram x7 and 9 speed... They later downgraded it to 8 speed.
If it's in a good shape, the size fits you and you can get him to bring the price down a bit I say go get it..
