Rickko seems to feel that it is necessary to respond to 23 emails in 5 hrs. hhhm. Newbie to postings or to bikes?
This is my third set of Dura-Ace, two of which have had the same problem of essentially stripping on the right hand lever. I was riding in -3 celcius weather, and both levers suddenly stopped working. They were seemingly "frozen" however upon returning home, the right hand lever simply would not shift on the downshift unless the brake lever was held firm.
The dealer(s) have informed me that I can purchase a new cassette replacement for the right hand side for app. $200.00 and that the unit is not serviceable. One of the dealers pointed out that I could buy a new set of Centaur levers (a pair) for $250.00 and that they are very serviceable with the most expensive internal part being app. $50.00. Seems like a simple decision now.
That the Shimano unit is not fixable other than replacement is appalling. When one purchases the best unit the company makes, I would expect a product which could be repaired at an economical price - not a full replacement price.
CYCLING GIRAFFE's comment is very appropriate. This unit should last for thousands of miles in all kinds of conditions. This bike is very well taken care of it is almost brand new. Virtually no rain, always well maintained by a dealer, never dropped or crashed. There is no viable explanation in my opinion. Shimano just lost another customer.
