Proper inflation and not riding like a complete crazy works wonders.
Inflation makes not a different to whether you get a flat or not with the exception of snake bites. Thank your lucky stars that you don't live where goatheads can be found. However, there are plenty things that can flat a tire. Nails, steel cords from tires, random metal bits, glass, even cactus spines. I've flatted from all of them as well as the hell that goatheads put me through.
