Recently I had the opportunity to test out a couple of bikes that I was considering. I found a dealer that had the Giant Anyroad which had the Sora shifters. I really liked the bike at the time (other than the look of the top bar) and was impressed with how smooth it shifted. Then I went down the road to the Specialized dealer and Got to try out the Diverge A1. I loved the look and feel of the bike, but it seemed that the Claris shifters were not nearly as smooth, there was a grinding sound on some gears and it was not nearly as nice in that respect. Now I really liked the Diverge over the Anyroad in every other way - comfort, feel, looks, etc. I am wondering (hoping) that maybe the Claris just needed to be adjusted and once it was aligned by the LBS it would be just as smooth as the sora from the giant dealer. Diverge offers a Sora model, but it is $200 more and that puts it a bit out of my budget. I don't care about having the one extra gear, I just want something that will shift each and every time I push the lever. I am a complete newbie when it comes to these things, so if anyone can give me some insight, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
