Hard to understand why that would be. The HG50 is in the Deore lineup, and the HG400 is Alivio, and is about 1/2 the price; so from that perspective, one would not think the 400 on its own would improve performance. Could have been something misaligned that was corrected with the switch though, or a bad batch of HG50's, or any number of other things.
