Typically if you're willing to pay Garmin some fee (equivalent to buying the replacement unit), they will send you the replacement right away, without waiting to receive your return. They've even overnighted mine on more than one occasion (its probable that I'm more of a PIA than you are).
Then you still send it your broken one and when they get it, they credit you back the $ you sent them.
If you sent your unit today, you might only have your $ tied up for a day or two total.
Ah, but I'm living on funemployment so I don't have money to tie up.
