Ignore your judgement on safety-we have no good numbers on safety LC/VC vs FRAP
"VC" or "lane control" doesn't mean never riding FRAP (which most states make a legal requirement, at least sometimes).

I rarely have issues with "taking the lane".

Drivers often have a different opinion of what FRAP means than cyclists do. So, there are still "negative interactions" riding FRAP. I'm not sure if it's less for me than when taking the lane.
