Diadora Geko's are pretty good shoes for the price .i have been through 2 pairs of them(cycling)
i also have a pair that i use for hiking only which work quite nicely for that too.
although they aren't quite as nice as my Diadora Skorpione's, they get the job done right nicely for $50.00
As with any shoes i would try on before purchase shoes are another "personal thing" might be comfortable for you & a nightmare for someone else
your weight & strength also come into play with sole stiffness & longevity of it.
hmmm. ...Maybe if your "clipped in" tight enough when you roll off those 40 ft. drops you will stay attached to your bike
laces aren't that bad as long as you keep the ends out of the way they are more of a pain than straps or mechanical cinching buckle but they work. with the Geko's i use both straps & laces, i leave the lace a tad loose & cinch the straps tight, when my feet heat up & slightly swell i loosen up straps on "the fly"
works good for me.

Sidi sucks
