Bikes: 78 Masi Criterium, 68 PX10, 2016 Mercian King of Mercia, Rivendell Clem Smith Jr

13-21 was most common around 1984, in norcal. 13-19 for less hilly courses. Maybe 13-24 if you liked to climb mostly in the saddle.

You had to sacrifice the low end to have closely spaced gears for high speeds on the flats and rolling hills.
