if I was going to go back to charging with a dynamo, I would find a cache battery that has pass-through charging and charge that with the dynamo. That gets around any issues with insufficient charging. Most electronic devices are a lot happier with a constant power supply, which makes sense. Batteries are probably happier with constant input as well, but they don't complain if they don't have it.
