When Specialized first introduced their AWOL touring bikes, one of their engineers purposely got a non painted frame and let it rust - he liked the look. I just took my touring bike into a mountain bike shop here in Guatemala and the guy very seriously told me I need to replace my disk rotors. When I asked why he pointed out the tiny bit of surface rust on them (obviously not on the breaking surface). I just chuckled and told him I'd think about it.
