You can use a piece of angle stock as a straight edge. Go to the hardware store and get a piece of 3/4" or 1" aluminium angle about 2 feet long. When you lay it against the frame, the edges of the stock will be parallel with the frame. Metal workers use this trick to drill holes in tubing.
