Buying a trainer-specific tire (Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Home Trainer 700x23) was the best trainer-related purchase I ever made. I put 600 miles on that tire during my broken hand month, and the tire still has the mold flashing on the center of the tread. I think it will probably last forever. It's also significantly quieter than any other road tire I had tried before (at least on my CycleOps Mag+.) Keep an eye on eBay and the Amazon Warehouse. I got mine for $20 shipped.
