My bike is unfendable
I have an old Trek 1000 road bike which I have shamefully turned into a commuter/town bike. First came the rack, then the switch to the flat handlebar, and it even had a front basket at one point. This past week I added a mirror and bell. Once the kickstand is installed, the Frankenstein transformation will be complete. After brunch yesterday, I cycled home on a muddy path and was none too pleased to find mud splatter on my linen shirt and legs. I decided fenders were now a necessity.
Cycled over to Performance and was told my bike cannot take fenders! Just not enough space--I was sorely disappointed as I had visions of lovely full fenders on both wheels. The gent did recommend a SKS fender that clips to the seat post for my back wheel. He wasn't sure how it would work with my rack though. The store was out of stock and recommended ordering online. For the front wheel, there was nothing he could recommend except finding a solution that would tie/velcro to the downtube. He didn't have any recommendations as Performance didn't carry such an item for a road bike.
What do you think of the recommendations? Are they effective? If they are my only hope--suggestions for products?
