It's a bit of an embarrassment of riches living in the PNW, and Dura-Ace can and does pop up more often and for non-extortionist prices. I purposefully built up a bike with 600 Tricolor and thoroughly enjoy it. Looks super nice as well, that dark grey.
What angle did you move the bar in? The bars look like Cinellis or similar, and the brifter angles look fine/fine enough to me. If anything, angling the bars down and sliding the brifters up (to end up with the same angle as started) would set the look straight. Old bars and brifters are always a tricky thing. Beautiful bike regardless!
Actually, you're going to laugh.
I bought the bike for $180. (It was in much worse shape than it is now.) The tires came with it (and are now trash... after that ride they had huge bubbles in the sidewall.) I did rebuild the wheels with H Plus Son Tb-14s and 600 hubs.
I'd LOVE to put some 7400 or 7700 DA on it, as that stuff is magical on my landshark, but the 600 is OK. I miss the short throw of the shifters on the DA though. (Other than that, the difference is negligible.) (The shifter throw on the 7400 is probably 1/3rd to 1/4th the 6400. Now, I got mine refurbished, so I'm not sure if that's normal but, I still miss it.)
And yes, you are correct for the bars. They are Cinellis, and I did exactly what you said, rotated the bars down while moving the brifters up. The problem was that the drops had SUCH an angle to them I felt like I was falling out of them.
I am going to spend some good money and put some nice tires on it. Maybe not the lightest weight racing tires, but definitely a good all around tire. Maybe GP 4000 IIs or Duranos or something nice from Vittoria. Unsure if I want to keep the gumwalls on this bike or not. The rims are SO wide I'm debating if I even NEED a 25c tire on it... It makes the 25s that are on it look like 28s.
