AS I understand for the time, Motobecane and Peugeot dominated the market and got preference on Stronglight. When production of Stronglight cranksets couldn't meet all manuf'er demands, others like Gitane were forced to go with alternate options, and the Mighty Comp was chosen as that alternative.

You saw this in other areas also, like how some of Gitane's top-of-the-line bikes came with Campy dropouts/fork ends, Simplex dropouts, or a mix (like mine) of Campy in front and Simplex in rear. They used what they could source.

PS - Surprised they didn't go with Nervar instead, but maybe they didn't have a true "competition/pro/racing" line for the era?
