My parents thought my bikes and cycling accessories were expensive but then I gave my car to my sister so they didnt have to buy her one, plus I dont need car insurance anymore. If you only plan on cycling for sport, that justification wont work though, but after the initial investments you really dont need to spend much money for a pretty long time unless you smash it or get it stolen.
