This sounds like he earned his own money for the bike. This in my mind gives him the right to spend it on what he wants to just like them. Though if he uses the shaming he may need to be ready to pay for his own schooling as his parents may decide to not spend their money on his schooling.
You are an adult now why are you looking for your parents approval on this purchase. Do you live at home, so they will see it daily?
