As a rule of thumb, I try to size frames by effective top tube length. I recently got a Backroad on ebay, size large. That has a seattube of 56.68 cm. I have two other touring bikes that are sized at 59 and 61 cm based on seattube sizes. All three fit about the same (which is good) because all three have about the same effective toptube length. But they vary a lot on how much seatpost shows.

In the photo, I did not use the Lynskey fork so my geometry differs slightly from stock. If the seapost looks odd, it is because it is a suspension fork I picked up cheap. This bike shows more seatpost than my other touring bikes.
