Bikes: Kona Kahuna DL Drop Bar - Sensah SRX Pro 1x11 (2012 Frame), Giant Toughroad GX 1 - Shimano Road Hydro + SLX 1x10 (2018), Diamondback Sync'r - SRAM NX 1x12 (2020)

My first real MTB experience

So I was mulling over the idea of getting a solid MTB but for winter riding since I don't live near any trails and I was stuck between a fat bike and a plus bike. Fast forward 6 months and I have the ability (and transportation) to try out a rental bike from a LBS so I rented a Felt Surplus 30.

So far all I've been able to do was some street riding and I'm amazed by how trail bike geometry and a suspension fork properly tuned for a big-ol' dude like myself can actually work (in addition to the 27+ tires). I was able to bomb down stairs which I wouldn't dare take my epic Enduro-Groad bike down.

So far my only gripes are with my hands going numb on the flat bars after getting used to drop bars, and the fact that the front fork still feels kind of too squishy but it's a rental so I can't be too picky. Tomorrow (now later in the morning), I plan on taking it trail riding to see just how much more enjoyment I can squeeze outta this one
