I think Trek doesn't distribute good manuals because they want to drive people to the LBSs. Nice sentiment, but most people don't want to replace their own bearings - they're going to the LBS anyway. And for those of us who do replace our own bearings (cuz we like it, or to save money), the lack of manuals is frustrating. Put the info out there, Trek!
Good advice! I chatted with a couple reps on their website and they basically told me that it is cup and cone.
So I said "where do I get new cones?" At a Trek retailer was the answer.
The advantage of in house hardware is the customer has to come back to the shop for help.
