I'm still experimenting but I'm doing better with the more frequent eating. I think I just need to build my fitness more. I did 75 miles and almost 6,000 ft of climbing this Sat. 70-75 degrees is hot at altitude and there was a headwind so I was quite worn on the way back, which also has a steep climb back up to Vail Pass. My legs were not sore after but I could tell that my HR was rising fast when climbing a lot of stairs. I may need to increase the concentration of Skratch/Osmo since if I drink enough, I feel like taking a leak every 45 mins...maybe that is normal? It is inconvenient on some routes.
Yesterday, I did 45 miles and 3,500 feet in that same area and part of the same route. I could tell I was not fully recovered but I ate and drank the same way and I think it helped. I think I will give it 3 days of rest now. I'm still adjusting what I eat but I think I will start to carry a banana as well. Honey Stonger Ginsting, banana, protein bar, and even some of those dehydrated meat things I find at Whole Foods (Buffalo and cranberries is fantastic). I can stand all that real well. I am finding that besides going all out to have a keto diet, building fitness helps the most. Those guys simply need to eat less. It is interesting to learn all this along the way.
