Road disc brake recommendation for old Shimano levers?
Can anyone recommend a disc brakeset to pair with an old set of Shimano BL-R600 Super SLR levers?
I'm building a year-round rainy weather commuter road bike, and have decided to go with disc so I can stop wearing out wheelsets every 12-18 months, and would like to have more rainy weather braking power in traffic and on descents. I went with a VO Pass Hunter Disc frame so I could have disc brakes and continue using my old downtube shifters and aero brake levers. Now I'm finding the world of disc brakes a little overwhelming.
After doing a lot of research, I have a couple basic concerns:
* I'm worried about insufficient cable pull from my 2008ish Shimano BL-R600 Super SLR levers.
* I'm hoping for all-weather, bomb-proof reliability since I'll be riding this rig in the rain in traffic and on mild descents.
Do I need to buy a new set of aero levers with longer pull? Do I need to abandon my beloved shifters and start riding 11 speed STIs? Am I just an unreasonable retro-grouch who would be better served buying a stock disc commuter bike?
I'd really appreciate any suggestions you may have!
Just for fun: I plan on speccing the bike out as follows...
* VO Pass hunter disc (It has some internal routing for the rear brake, IS mount, but they say it's incompatible with Sram/Avid brakes at the fork mount)
* VO touring hubs with 6 bolt rotor mount laced to 36-hole HPlusSon Archetypes, 28mm Gators (the freehub is not spaced for 11 speed)
* VO 110 BCD double crankset
* 10Speed Shimano derailleurs (probably 6700)
* Shimano 7900 10speed indexed downtube shifters (I'm really building this bike around my shifters!)
* The aforementioned Shimano BL-R600 Super SLR brake levers
* Brakes... ?
