I agree on the straps. That's why I use strapless toe clips. Even easier to get in and out of than clipless. Less expensive, more durable, no special shoes required. Same ability to generate power through the whole 360° of the pedal stroke. I've never ever come close to horizontal trackstanding. YMMV.

I have a feeling the OP was just riding plastic platforms and probably doesn't want anything fancy or expensive. Just some decent, inexpensive platform pedals that won't fall apart on him. Just a hunch, though, until he responds.
