29er fork with 26in wheels

Quality, low price 26in forks are in short supply, but 29er forks are widely available.

A friend is potentially interested in swapping the stock suspension fork on a older Specialized FSR. So it occurred to me that you could potentially use a 29er fork with a 26in wheel (disc brake).

Obviously, this is going to change the geometry, but that's not a bad thing. Modern bikes are significantly more slack.

The bike has a 70.5deg head angle, and a 29er fork would slacken this to a more modern ~69deg. The trail would go up slightly also, so maybe compensate with a slightly higher offset.

Has anyone tried something similar? What was your experience?
