I'm glad this thread was revived - it's making me feel a bit better
When I first started trying to work on my own bikes, I thought that taking things apart would be a good way to fix them. I was convinced that I could fix my rear derailleur if only I could take it apart and change out those little wheels. I succeeded in taking it apart but, nope, disassembly doesn't fix bent. I also disassembled several caliper brakes.
My other numbskull moves include: improperly torquing crankarm bolts (crankarm falls off), stripping threads while installing pedals (pedal falls off), messing up chainring bolts (chainring falls off), failing to check tire for debris before changing tube (bonus flat tires), and never ever properly greasing anything (seized parts).
