I ended up doing this route (9 days).

Very happy with the route, safety-wise. El Paso was easier to get out of than expected. NM has shoulders when you need them. The CO portion was OK. Low traffic for the most part.

The Black Hills in SD were awesome and you could easily spend a week there exploring. The plains were nice and low traffic, but holy **** the WIND!

Williston kind of sucks. Maybe finish in Minot instead?

Fun route overall.
