Coastal Drive South of Klamath?

I was just reminiscing about a past trip down the Oregon Coast into northern California.

Something that has always bothered me about that trip, that I am not sure I ever got an answer.

Just south of Klamath Google Maps shows Coastal Dr. It shows the road going all the way through to Redwoods State Park. At the time I thought I had remembered reading about the road and it said the road had a restriction on RVs. Figuring this was an excellent alternative to 101, we decided to take the road. And like a couple of dummies we made the long climb to the top where Coastal Drive meets Alder Camp Road.

To our horror, we found Coastal Drive closed. It had looked like it had been closed for years. All over grown. We had to turn around and make another climb up the 101. This was back in 2013 and Google Maps still shows the road as opened.

I found this article
https://www.nps.gov/redw/learn/news/...rive-close.htm

Looks like the shut the road down way back in 2011. Article says the road is still accessible on bicycle. Has anyone tried to get through there? Looks like it is (or was) only 3.3 miles that was closed. Article seems to confirm my findings of the closure at Alder Camp Road.
