I think you got a great deal for $1000. If you spend time reading forums and magazines they are all full of marketing hype. I just passed the 12k mile mark on my 2012 Synapse and I still love this bike as much as when I bought it. If you put me on a 2018 with "new" features, I probably would not notice and wouldn't be any faster.
