For the $1,500 price, are there better hybrid models to consider?

I would say the components are "good enough". Components are typically not top of the line on a bike in this price range but are good enough, work well and will last. If you don't know the difference in the components or what specifically you want out of the components you have and the bike rides well then don't sweat it too much.
