My 1972 Motobecane Grand Record is within a pound of most of other bikes. It's easily worthy of being a daily rider. On the other hand, my 1974 Steyr Clubman and 1973 Nishiki Olympic are considerably heavier and the Clubman, at least, is not as well constructed. I think it's a matter of quality more so than age.
