I've noticed that as well. Once I'm trained, I don't need any food for 60 milers. Even on single day 100 milers I can usually get by with a couple fig newtons and/or some peanut butter crackers. Multi day touring rides is a whole different story.
OMG ... you would not believe the calories I've consumed in a day on a multi-day tour. Well over 5000. And I wasn't even trying.

I ride in warmish-hot weather - 90-100, but I usually start early enough that by finish time this time of year it is usually in the mid-90's. I almost never eat burgers, but after a hot ride I always crave a burger and sometimes even eat one instead of the yoghurt and fruit or watermelon that is my usual post-ride meal this time of year.
