Trek Madone came with Ultegra. That about explains the current setup. The last was based on the need/want for a triple and at that time it was Shimano bar-ends and xt components on a custom roadbike. That setup was upgraded to a 105 shift-brake levers with the xt stuff and yes that works even though I have been told it does NOT!
