The more I think about it the more I think that was deliberate.
Astana is down to seven, tired, beat-up riders .... they didn't want the yellow to begin with. We all saw their faces when they road in after Stage 13.
I think Aru's best bet is to stay as close as possible and gamble on a late attack in a late stage ... and gamble on the Time Trial.
No way Astana could protect the jersey.
