Bikes: It's complicated.

The problem is stated as thus:

lim(n->infinity) n+1 = ?

where n is the number of bikes you current have. n+1 is often referred to the number of bikes you need.

There is no bounding statement.

You need to solve the following:

n+1 < s-1

Where s represents your significant other.

If s = 0, n+1 is undefined.

Don't try to solve this algebraiclly. Logic has little to do with it.
