Bears don't have retractable claws, although black bear claws are shorter than grizzly claws. Nonetheless, it might have been problematic for my inflatable kayak. Not to mention the unwieldy weight.
Polite bears were white gloves and tennis shoes when getting into an inflatable.

I had meant to see if the boats were still there (had appeared abandoned). Having a boat 10 miles up the trail would have been a lot easier than packing them up, but unfortunately a forest fire went through that area, and there was no sign of them the next time I looked.
I hope those folks had another way out if they weren't actually abandoned.
