We have some pulleys like that you show. It works like a Venetian blind. You pull it and it stops, you move your arm over to one side and it releases. We would use regular hooks but the ceiling is really high in the garage. It works well. Keeping the extra cord out of the way is an issue. I wrap it on a piece of cardboard and set it out of the way.
