Yup, ridden there a bunch of times. Lake Placid is in the High Peaks area of the Adirondacks, which should tell you everything you need to know about the terrain. :-) While riding around the town itself is not particularly hilly, it will take all of about ten minutes at a sedate pace to cross it.

Some of the surrounding roads are constant rollers, and there are also bunches of steep climbs. You might want to try using Google Maps to plot out bike trips to nearby towns and see what the elevation changes are, since only you know what's reasonable for you.
