If it works for you, roll with it. I don't pay much attention to weight of my bicycles, I just use well-made, middle-of-the-price range components that'll keep my bikes as trouble-free as possible. Both of my 'frankenbike' road bikes weigh about 25 lbs. All bikes also have a simple rack on them for lashing stuff down (a jacket no longer needed after the day heats up, maybe some lunch on an all-day ride, an extra water bottle, etc). I also changed the tires from 25mm and 28mm widths to 35mm; they make the ride a lot more comfortable!
