You should post a pic of the current setup and indicate exactly what you mean by making the hoods closer. If you're asking about sliding them up around the bar curve to bring them "closer" ... why not give it a go... Cant hurt to experiment.

Won't take much movement feel significantly different and hopefully more comfortable. Don't re-wrap until you're happy!
