As it turns out the OP already had the stem flipped.. smart first move if only for aesthetics, lol. The OP's words were; "now the hoods seem too far away" which I didn't literally take as being "problems reaching the hoods".

There's like 100+ different combination options to make something feel comfortable on a bike and it sounds like flipping the stem (which he did) wasn't one that you'd offer and that's ok. All's good.

OP wants to know if anyone rotated hoods up and around (with stem flipped) and I say go for it. A little move can make a big difference in feel.
